SMATreatmentsForAll

Muscular Dystrophy Ireland and SMA Ireland together are campaigning for adults with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) to have equal access to life-saving treatments, just like those we were under 18 when the treatments were approved. Around 20 adults in Ireland are being denied these treatments just because of their age at the time when the HSE approved them. You can find out more about the campaign here.

Thanks to emails from constituents like you from all over Ireland, a wide range of TDs and senators, alongside Department of Health officials and industry representatives, recently attended a compelling briefing in the Audio-Visual Room at Leinster House, organised by Muscular Dystrophy Ireland and SMA Ireland. They heard directly from experts and those affected by the current age-based exclusion from life-saving SMA treatments.

Many representatives have since raised Parliamentary Questions or pledged to follow up with the Minister for Health or the HSE. These actions are deeply appreciated; however, our work is not yet done.

We are asking you to help us keep the pressure on until adults with SMA get equal accesss to the treatments they need. We urge you to contact your local TDs and senators, expressing the need for their continued support until this injustice is rectified.

You can simply select your constituency and then use the letter template.

Thank you for taking the time to take part in the campaign! Your actions really do have an impact.
